.COM/.NET Price hike!

Versign, the registry for .COM has signed up a revised contract with the ICANN to manage and maintain the domains, is going to raise the domain price by USD 1.35 which will come into effect from 15th January-2012.  Along with this the company has the authority to raise the price of the domain by 7% every year with a notice to the registrars by 6 months earlier to the new revised price.  A 10% raise to the .NET price also signed up by June of this year.

As its quiet known that the value of Indian Rupee falls down against the US dollar, the price of the domain which we get was on an upswing, Even though the margin we get is too low, we didn't raise the price of the domain.  But as the prices of the domain names will be revised soon as said above, we're having no more choices than to revise the prices of the .COM/.NET domains along with the registry.

So, we'd like to suggest you to register the .COM/.NET domains earlier to the price hike, and as the FREE Hosting with the .COM/.NET domains offer is going to end within 8 Days(30-12-2011), its your great chance to buy the same and enjoy the free hosting and lesser domain price.

setting mail forward from gmail/yahoo ids to mail@urdomain.in!

Based on our experience with Small and Medium Size enterprises, most of the companies are using a free mail service email id (as gmail/yahoo/vsnl) before they either get a domain name or website for their concern.  But even though after getting their own domain name or website, they stuck up with their FREE email ids promoting the free email service providers, through their communications, brand materials(i.e., visiting cards, letterhead, envelope etc...,) than their corporate email ids.  This post is to put some light on using emails on your domain name along with how to migrate to your corporate mail id from the FREE email id you've been using for years, without missing a single mail.

Why do you need to use your mail id on your domain name?
  • It improves your brand identity and also your customers come to know that you've a website where they can able to get to know about your company and the related details you've put on your website.
  • You can have your own choice of email id, than the available mail id from a Free mail service provider.(recently we came across a company's mail id as ctmds32@XXXX.com)
  • The email id and its security is always under your control.

How to do it?
  • Set a mail forward from your existing email id to the new corporate mail id.  So whenever your customer sends an email to this mail id, it'll get forwarded to your corporate mail id.
  • Once you've set the mail forward successfully, start replying to your customers mail from your corporate mail id, so that they'll get to know that you're started to use your corporate mail id and they'll also get to know about your websites availability.
Based on the email service provider, check for the "Settings" and choose "Forward/Mail Forward" and provide your corporate/new mail id and save.  Most of the service providers may ask you to confirm the new mail id by sending a link to confirm or by providing a confirmation code which has to be entered to the existing mail id, to confirm the new/corporate mail id.  Once you've confirmed the "Forward" mail id, all your mails coming to the old mail id, will get forwarded to your new mail id.  Just start replying from this mail id choosing the "From" mail id as your corporate mail id.  That's so simple isn't it, if you've any query feel free to reach us.

Educational Content with YouTube for Schools!

Learning by video is the most entertaining and informative way for everyone, maybe its an adult or a kid.  Youtube has got millions of videos from all kinda stuffs available.  It seems to be that the company was hearing from the teachers that they want to use the educational videos on it, in their classroom, but worried about the distraction of  other videos getting listed along with the educational videos.

To address the issue, Youtube has come with a channel YouTube for Schools, where the school administrators can grant the access only to the educational content from YouTube EDU. The video's can be chosen from more than 600 partners like the TED, Steve Spangler Science..

What do you think about this, leave your comment below!

Twitter's redesign with Brand Pages and Embeddable Tweets!

After Jack Dorsey’s return to Twitter Inc’s, the creator to the micro-blogging service company, as an executive by this March, has announced this Thursday(08/12/2011) about a re-design of the service  with Brand Pages, as offered by its social rivals Facebook and Google+, along with Embeddable tweets and lot more..,

The revamp includes few key marketing implications as
  • Access to all interactions an user had with a company’s departments via icon-driven features.
  • Promoted Trend and Promoted Account units will appear on the page’s left hand side, instead of the right.
  • Ads running on Twitter’s mobile app, along with more robust mobile experience.

Embeddable Tweet:

Embeddable tweet is nothing but, message posted on Twitter can be embedded on other websites by copy-paste a line of code,  by clicking on “Embed This Tweet” link.  This will help visitors of the website to follow the account on twitter, retweet, reply or favorite a tweet without leaving the website.

The New Version

The redesigned site will be rolled out for the desktops over the next few weeks, whereas for the mobile users its appearing from last night through the url “mobile.twitter.com” on iPhone and Android.

The major change is that the profile information and trends will appear on the left than the present where it was on the right hand side, and the tweets on the left side.

Apart from these changes,
  • Home section will show embedded photos, videos, conversations in tweets.
  • New connect section will help you to keep in track of who has followed you, mentioned you, favorite you or re-tweeted your tweets.
  • New profile section makes it easier for others to view your lists, followers etc..,

Bing, Coca-Cola, Nike, American Express, Dell are the few who will enjoy the new brand page, which is offered for 21 brands.

“Its not just a visual redesign but a conceptual redesign to make Twitter more accessible to the next billion users” said Satya Patel, a senior executive of the micro-blogging company.

The redesign will add a section to every user’s account called “Stories” that’ll show them the content on the site they may find interesting.  “It’s the first step to start to surface all the rich content that’s pouring into the platform for people who’re experiencing it for the first time” as said by Twitter CEO Dick Costolo.

are you the owner of your Domain Name?

Are you the owner of your Domain Name?

"What a question is this?", your grey matter may raise this question.

You may NOT in two different cases.

Over our experience, we found that, in many corporate/industries the Domain name would have been registered by some of the employers at some time, might be long long ago. At the time of registering one of the employee registers the domain name, under his name and the his email address would have been used as admin email for the domain.  Its quite nature that employees shift jobs and may leave the company.  When they do so, if they didn't transfer the admin rights of the domain name, then the company may loose the domain.  So how to avoid that, the admin mail should be off the company's one.  So that even the employee quits/leaves the company, the ownership of the domain name remains with the corporate house itself.

How to find that under who's name the domain is registered, whose email id has been put as admin mail id of the domain?.  By looking into WHOIS look up of the domain, we can able to pull out those details.  To use our WHOIS look up tool, just click here.  If you find your domain name is not registered/managed by your corporate executives, you can reach us for assistance to bring the domain under you by mailing to us to the mail id support[@]hostit.co.in(remove the [] braces before mailing).

In the second case, the domain registration service provider might be the owner or he may not allow you to manage your domain(i.e.., updating MX Records, A records, NS records etc..,) , completely at your wish, or if they charge you for such kind of updates, then for sure your domain is not owned by you.

Every domain registrar should be provided with a domain control panel, where he can manage the domain's record and everything as he wish.  If your domain registration service provider didn't provide a control panel or if you're not able to update the records by yourself, you can ask your rights, if you didn't get so, you can move/transfer the domain to other service provider who provide the control panel and  rights to manage your domain like Host IT, Chennai.

So how to transfer/move the domain name to your choice of Domain Registrar?, check out soon for the same! :-)
